A State of Mind
DAY OF CIVIC ACTION
As part of a community collaboration of five dynamic civic organizations, O’Connor House helped to organize and participated in the first annual Day of Civic Action. The full day program, titled It’s Up To Me AZ brought over 500 citizens from all walks of life together to hear the latest research on issues affecting Arizona, and to make a personal plan for how each person could become active in positive change. This innovative, action-oriented dialogue and personal planning day was organized by the O’Connor House, Arizona Town Hall, Girl Scouts, Sonora chapter, Center for the Furture of Arizona, and the Arizona Foundation for Women. In addition to proceeds from the events, the day was sponsored by generous supporters such as Hidden Meadow Ranch.
The day featured:
- Idea development, discussion and inspiration from top leaders from across the country and around the state including Frances Hesselbein, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Dr. Lattie Coor and others
- Unveiling of the Arizona Women’s Foundation report on the Status of Women in Arizoa
- Presentation of the result of the Gallop pole on The Arizona We Want
- Personal action planning, civic action breaks
- Broadening personal networks and personal leadership through discussions with other concerned citizens, candidates and elected officials from around the state
- Information about access to resources, information and tools to facilitate civic action by all
