SANDRA DAY O'CONNOR AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN REPORTING ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
Presented by the O'Connor House.
Administered by the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication at ASU
The Avon Program, in partnership with ASU's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, is hoping to launch a national annual media award program to recognize exemplary journalism concerning violence against women, with an emphasis on domestic abuse, sexual assault, sex trafficking and teen dating violence. The award will advance factual understanding of the pervasive nature of the issue and winning entries will illustrate the impact on individuals, families, and communities. The ultimate goal is to create a culture that has zero tolerance for violence against women.
The Avon Program is seeking to procure a funding commitment for at least three years to launch the contest.
The award will be open to print, electronic, online and college-level media; entries will be judged by a national panel of five respected journalists and journalism educators. ASU's Cronkite School will administer the award to ensure that it will be professionally and independently judged according to the highest journalistic standards.
